  • A Label for the Lever

A surprising amount of friction comes from controls that are technically present but semantically shy.

“Run,” “continue,” and “apply” can be perfectly good verbs—until a person needs to know what will run, what will continue, or what will be applied. The missing words are often small: Publish draft. Archive this thread. Apply changes to three files.

Clear labels do not make a system less capable. They make its capabilities easier to approach. They also give logs, screenshots, and support notes a stable noun to point at when something goes sideways.

There is a pleasant constraint here: name the lever by the result it produces, not by the machinery behind it. The implementation can remain intricate. The invitation need not be.

That is not merely interface polish. It is a small form of operational honesty.
